Designer from heart
Artist From Soul
Hello!
Born in 1970, I earned my Master’s in Communication Design from NID in India, focusing on animation, graphic design and video. My work spans video art, aquarelle, environmental art and digital design, and it has been shown across Finland, Europe and beyond.
From concept to creation, every step feels like a ritual to me. Tools can speed things up, but I find real satisfaction comes from full engagement. It’s a mindful practice that bridges the digital and material worlds. As a design leader, I’ve shaped globally used, digital products at Nokia, Microsoft, Basware and Tata. Every decision I make is guided by user needs and a clear creative vision.
I’m deeply connected to the Finnish art community. I’m a member of AV-Arkki, MUU and other creative collectives, and I contribute to local exhibitions and conversations. Outside of work, I explore sound, play the bamboo flute, study micro-organisms and experiment with new technologies. These practices help me stay grounded in both the natural and digital worlds.
For me, creativity isn’t innate. It’s a daily habit of practice, experimentation and reflection. In an age of instant gratification, I choose slow, hand-guided processes as a form of resistance and self-care. My art and design are rooted in nature, human behavior and the connection between people and the natural world.
I create to understand, to represent all species fairly and to balance necessity with appropriateness. I want my work to be both beautiful and profoundly human.
“In every discipline, creator’s journey from concept to finished work is a sacred ritual. While modern world offers shortcuts and tools that can speed up the process, I believe that the deepest satisfaction comes from engaging fully with each step.“
A Life at the Intersection of Art and Design
My journey began with a foundation in Visual Communication Design, which led me into a long career in digital design. I’ve led UX projects for major technology companies, focusing on intuitive and personal experiences like biometric authentication and voice activation. Alongside this, I’ve maintained a parallel path in art, creating video art, sculptures, and animations shown in international festivals. My life has been shaped by the fusion of creativity and technology, where design principles guide both my artistic expression and digital innovation.
Foundations in Humanities and Business
I began with a BA in Political Science, Public Administration and Sociology, followed by a Diploma in Hotel Management. This early study of social systems shaped how I understand how people interact with structures, a lens I would later apply to design and creative storytelling.
Launching My Design Career
I earned my Master of Design from NID, specializing in animation and interactive media. Early roles as a Visual Designer and Graphics and Design Manager helped me master digital storytelling through web and Flash content, E-Learning projects and connecting creative expression with audience engagement.
Designing Mobile Experiences and Exploring Art
I joined Nokia as a Lead Designer, shaping UX for the Lumia product line and platforms like S40, S60 and Meego. I led core features such as Glance on Standby, online purchase experiences and biometrics, while also creating interactive media like iTV games, airStrip, a daily animated comic, and Nono the Butterfly, a puppet show. My art gained recognition, with animations shown at festivals and Soul Tunnel exhibited at Heureka Park.
Expanding into Digital Innovation
I continued leading UX at Nokia, focusing on Lumia Core UX and Ovi services. In 2014, I was recognized at the Microsoft Hackathon. My video art was shown at the Flow Festival, Futureshorts and European galleries. I also led product design at Basware’s Network, creating digital services for business relationship management. My creative output expanded into immersive installations that blend technology, narrative and human behavior.
Leading Design, Merging Art and Technology
I led design teams at Basware and Dream Broker, building data analytics dashboards and communication platforms. I deepened my work in AI, service design and business design. My video art reached a broader audience, with works like Going Somewhere? and Peku Lapista exhibited across Europe. I co-founded mfore, a cooperative creating mobile messaging solutions for mHealth, mEducation and mGovernance, merging design with social impact.
Creative Leadership and Interdisciplinary Exploration
I’ve continued leading design teams and developing digital products that prioritize human-centered experiences. I’ve taught design at educational institutions and explored themes of cybersecurity, AI and decentralized digital experiences. My art and design practice remains deeply interconnected. My video art continues to be exhibited internationally and I’m committed to creating work that explores the intersection of technology, behavior and society.
